Guacamole and a chip. One chip.

How to Make Guacamole Dip

Despite being the silliest word to see on one page repeatedly, guacamole is a great alternative to salsa for dipping tortilla chips.

This recipe for homemade guacamole can be prepared in less than five minutes once you’ve tried it out a few times.

Guacamole Ingredients

The main ingredient in guacamole is fresh avocado. If you’ve never bought an avocado before, you’ll want to be careful to ensure you’ve got properly ripened avocado.

You’ll also need some fresh garlic, several limes, a small onion and a small tomato.

How to Prepare Guacamole

First things first, you’ll need to prepare your avocados. You’ll need three or four.

Cut them across the middle, going around the pit. Use a fork or a spoon to scoop the avocado from the skin.

Mash it all up with a fork or a potato masher. You can use a food processor if you’re making a larger quantity, but avoid overdoing it. Chunks are okay.

You’ll want about a cup of lime juice, so be sure not to be wasteful. Get as much juice from your limes as possible.

Chop half an onion and a small tomato. Mince two garlic cloves.

Throw it all together.

That’s guacamole.

Tips for Making Guacamole

When picking out avocados make sure they are reasonably soft and of a dark green color.

You can add chopped jalapeno peppers if you prefer it spicy.

You can replace the onions with chives, if you want. I don’t care.

To reduce sharpness of the garlic flavor you can cook it on low heat beforehand. But that takes a while, so don’t.
